JAMAICA ~ The Centre of the Caribbean

I have travelled to Jamaica on six different occasions and while each experience has been unique they have all been memorable. I have visited exclusive mountain retreats deep within the tropical forest and I have stayed on the infamous 7 mile beach in Negril. I have travelled there with my family, sharing the experience with my children and as a couple looking for that special time together at one of the couples only resorts. No matter what your interests may be Jamaica provides the range of attractions and cultural diversity that few destinations can offer.
You can enjoy your time in paradise being pampered at one of the many all inclusive resorts or you can choose from one of over 50 different excursions and activities. For the adventurer there is mountain biking, ATV experiences or zip lining through the canopy of the rainforest. For the nature lovers there are beautiful botanical gardens or waterfalls to visit. Perhaps you have always wanted to swim with the dolphins or ride horseback down the beach. Most recently a new attraction opened in Jamaica called Mystic Mountain. It is located near Ocho Rios and I had the opportunity to visit it this July. A chairlift takes you on a picturesque 15 minute ride though Jamaica’s tropical canopy to the top of the mountain where the excitement awaits you. Only in Jamaica can you ride a bobsled on a 3,280 ft track with twists and turns achieving speeds up to 40 miles per hour..that is if you want. Fortunately for me the bobsled is completely controlled by handbrakes that YOU operate.
After your bobsledding experience you have to try out the Rainforest Zip line Canopy Tour. Now I am scared of heights and scared is probably an understatement. Nevertheless, I bowed to peer pressure and tried out this tame version of a Zip Line. It was really incredible and they only had to peel my hands off the railing once. Would I do it again….you bet!
They recently announced that Mystic Mountain will be open in the evening and you can experience all of the activities in a torch lit rainforest. They will be providing zip liners with helmets with built in lights. Does it make it better if you can’t see where you are going?
If you still have energy left after the excursions you have to experience shopping in Jamaica. The talented artists well their wares in markets and galleries. If you have the opportunity to stop into our office you will see the latest mahogany carving that I recently brought back. A big Rasta complete with flowing dreadlocks greets you at our reception desk. The spices are fabulous and the coffee is some of the best in the world. Duty free shops offer exquisite items for more upscale shopping.
